Patriotic Event Features Ohio Veterans Sean Clifton and Terry Schappert
Arlington, Va. – National veterans advocacy organization Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is bringing its Defend Freedom Tour to Columbus on Friday, May 29.
This family-friendly, patriotic event is from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center.
Last spring it was revealed that veterans were placed on secret waiting lists at VA hospitals around the country. In some cases, veterans died while waiting for care. At the Columbus VA clinic, four percent of appointments take over 31 days to fulfill—a minor decrease from the height of the scandal last year, when six percent of appointments took more than 31 days to fulfill.
Through the Defend Freedom Tour, CVA is building a movement of veterans, military families, and patriotic Americans to fight for accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), among a host of other issues concerning veterans and military families.
“Veterans and military families are not satisfied with leadership in Washington, they’re fed up with the dysfunctional Department of Veterans Affairs, and they’re disappointed by President Obama’s lack of a coherent foreign strategy,” said Pete Hegseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans for America. “Through the Defend Freedom Tour, we’re bringing together veterans, military families and all patriotic Americans who are ready to fight to get our country back on track.”
The Columbus Defend Freedom Tour features two Ohio natives: Local Hero Master Sergeant Sean Clifton and emcee Master Sergeant Terry Schappert.
Clifton is a decorated former Green Beret with more than 20 years of military service who was critically wounded in Afghanistan in 2009 while conducting a raid on a Taliban compound.
Master Sergeant Terry Schappert is a Green Beret and host of the Discovery Channel survival game series Dude, You’re Screwed, and star of Shark Attack Survival Guide, a one-hour special for Discovery’s Shark Week.
This event also features special celebrity guest Katie Pavlich, the editor of Townhall.com, a Fox News contributor and regular host on Fox News’ Outnumbered. She is the award winning author of “Assault and Flattery: The Truth About the Left and Their War on Women” and the New York Times best-seller “Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and Its Shameless Cover-Up.”
The program lineup includes inspirational speakers with a message of freedom and patriotic musical guests.
Speakers include decorated U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell, author of New York Times best-seller “Outlaw Platoon,” Gold Star Mother Karen Vaughn, and Pete Hegseth, CEO of CVA and a Fox News contributor. The event also features live concerts by rising country music star Ayla Brown, and Madison Rising, the nation’s most patriotic rock band.
Admission is FREE and includes a complimentary dinner. Register event on Eventbrite. Can’t make it to Columbus? Catch us in Cincinnati on May 30. For more information, go to www.DefendFreedomTour.com.
